Building a studio, part 1

That's right, we're building a studio! We're converting the left hand side of our double garage into a studio for Sounds of the Nations SA, East London. I am very excited (obviously) because this is a life-long dream, will make my wife happy (I'll get all my instruments and computers out of the spare room) and is just the beginning of the dreams that I have for SotNSA.

The building began last week (we're converting the room under our deck into a guest cottage at the same time) and I am going to be posting pics of the progress as the studio develops. For now the plan is to get the basic "shell" into place - once I've moved in I can start thinking about dry-walling and acoustic treatment and so on. Baby steps!

In this news article, you can see the plans for the studio, and below are some pics (you can see my 16 month old daughter Nia pottering around... she is just inspecting the place to make sure it's up to scratch for her up-and-coming musical debut!).

Whoa I bet that studio needs some ventilation! How hot is it in South Africa? Here in Australia, we're in summer right now, which means we're baking. Have you considered putting in any dehumidifiers? I don't know how humid it is there either, but Africa is pretty steamy, huh? Anyways, I like your passion. I've been meaning to turn our garage into a playroom for years.
